This is my piece for the Bump in the Night portfolio that Kyoht will be putting together for the upcoming Convention. The Legendary Black Dog. I'm sure plenty of you know the legends and myths behind this supposed demonic omen of death seen occasionally around the world by unlucky travelors. Similar to the Mothman, the black dog was sure to bring either ill tidings or death itself to those who crossed it's path alone at night. Some say it is the devil's pet, doing his dirty work on earth.... Others believe it to be the angry soul of some unknown departed human, come back to wreak havoc in the shape of a old black dog. Either way, I gave it both human (front hands and teeth) and canine aspects....
I only recently heard of the portfolio but it sounds like its going to be outstanding, and the pieces I've seen so far are not short of just that.
Nice concept- I like your take ont he legend and I really like the paw/hand idea
I'm simply terrified of dogs...no really, I am. SO like...this is making me nervous...lol...but I like how you added the hand prints. THat's truely one frightening harbinger of death...
I love the legend of the black dog, or the 'Padfoot' as it is called around here (yes, that IS where Miss JK goot her name). I'm probably one of the only people that believe the Padfoot can be a good omen at times o_o
Anyhow, this is a great picture! The fur looks amazing, and I love the idea of the front-hands. What did you use to shade the black so well?
Daaaamn that's creepy. Reminds me of those compiled ghost stories books with the weird and creepy B&W drawings in them. I'll have to find an author and book title. But it totally belongs in those books.
